Fujimi Ferrari 250 GTO: A Masterclass in 1/24 Scale

HPM member Frank recently completed a build that deserves a spotlight: the Fujimi 1/24 scale Ferrari 250 GTO Experimental, modeled after the 1966 Le Mans entry. According to Frank, this kit has been called by many “the best quality 1/24th scale ever manufactured.” While it presented some challenges, he noted that “if you take your time, it’s not too difficult to assemble.”

A Few Assembly Tips

Frank pointed out two key challenges during the build. First, the instructions. “Though there are plenty of graphics, there’s very little text. If you aren’t careful and don’t dry assemble first, you can easily misinterpret the graphic and install a part too early in the sequence.” Second, some parts are incredibly small. “There are pieces as tiny as a pinhead. I highly recommend cutting them off the sprue inside a small plastic container in case they rocket off into the carpet.”

Despite these hurdles, Frank praised the overall fit of the kit. “The fit is first class all the way through. The body does have injection holes poorly filled – two below each door – but it’s simple stuff to fix and adjust for.”

Paint and Finish Choices

Frank opted not to apply decals. “The lines of the Ferrari are too pretty to be distracted by the decals,” he said. Instead, he focused on a clean, elegant finish. For the interior, he used Scale Finishes Terra Cotta for the seats and dashboard, and SEM Automotive Trim Paint for the flat black areas of the interior and chassis.

The exterior was painted in layers: a basecoat of Scale Finishes Honda Solar Silver Metallic, followed by a topcoat of Honda Aegean Blue Metallic, and sealed with Scale Finishes Clear Coat. The result is a sleek, understated finish that lets the curves of the car speak for themselves.

Added Details

To elevate the realism, Frank added several aftermarket parts from USCP – Ukrainian Scale Cars Production, a Ukrainian company that sells 3D-printed components through eBay. “I used their Webber carbs, fuel lines, twin distributors, plug wires, and coils in the engine bay. I also used their wire wheels designed specifically for this kit. This is the second time I’ve ordered from them, and the parts are fantastic.”
